Well here we are, at the end of the
season with one final meet Saturday at Lincoln Pool in Quincy! The coaching
staff would like all the swimmers to know that we are very proud of you all.
The improvements we have seen in stroke technique, and times have been
tremendous throughout the season. We have 114 swimmers in the Championship meet
and we look forward to seeing everyone compete! Remember you are racing against
yourself and working on being the best you, you can be! Do not get into the
habit of ever comparing yourself to anyone else in the pool. Try your best and
most importantly have fun!
Congratulations on a job well
done in Cambridge, we won the meet 422.5 to 286.5. Thank you to our parents for
taking the time to bring your young athletes to the meet. As always the meet
would not have happened if we did not have volunteers, THANK YOU! It seemed that Norwood fronted the load
on manpower, know that we very much appreciate your time and willingness to
roll-up your sleeves and help out. Our group of parents is the best in the
league in my opinion, and Sunday’s meet reinforced that belief, THANK YOU!
Winter League
Championships
CLICK FOR a listing of our
Winter Championship Team Roster . These are all who committed to participate in
the swim meet.
Additionally, CLICK HERE FOR THE RELAYS . If your child is assigned to a relay, please make sure you stay around
for them. If something comes up and they can not stay, please let Coach Kim
know as soon as possible. We have alternates, but need a heads up in order to
alert those individuals that they are swimming. If you are an alternate, please
check in with us prior to leaving the meet to make sure we do not need you.
Finally, we need to support the
snack bar and volunteer duties for the swim meet this weekend. If you are not
assigned an area to cover, please know that we might call on you to bring an
additional something to the banquet. Also, we did not assign timers, but our
team is responsible for three timers in the morning and three in the afternoon.
Timing is truly the best seat in the house, so if you want to stay busy while
your child is swimming, this is the place to help out! If for some reason you
are not able to cover your assigned shift please email us and we will see if we
can get coverage for you. Also, if you can’t bring what you are assigned, you
must find someone to fill in for you. See the attached Team Roster for ideas of
who you can hit up.

All swimmers will report to the
gym where they will be stationed between events, this is where the bullpen will
be. We will try to get all the Norwood kids to sit in the same general area. Parents
are encouraged to come to the gym at any time to check-up on their children. This
is a long day and the gym is COLD so please bring extra towels and cloths. Also
bring sleeping bags, pillows, blankets, cards and games. Swimmers, PLEASE
BUNDLE UP AND STAY WARM BETWEEN RACES. IF YOU ARE SHIVERING IT IS GOING TO BE
HARD TO SWIM FAST WHEN IT IS TIME FOR YOUR RACE. You can even go into the pool
area with a towel and a sweatshirt for your race, just to STAY WARM. Coaches
will be on deck throughout the meet, swimmers, come up and see us after you
swim! We will try to connect with as many of you as possible after your races
and even before. Finally a little piece of advice, please use the buddy system
when visiting the locker room, stay with your buddy or your parent.
Food will be allowed in the
concession area only.
T-Shirts will be sold and
proceeds will go to the league.
Programs

Parking is a bit of a
challenge as you know from past meets. Please do not park on the grass areas;
you do not want to be towed.
COMPETITION
Tips for our Swimmers – Yes these don’t change!
Below are a couple of very basic tips to remind your
swimmers prior to the meet. Coaches will give gentle reminders on deck prior to
their swims, but we want parents to be aware of these as well. These do not
cover all legalities related to the strokes, but are very basic things that ALL
swimmers are capable of doing and need to do so they do not get DQ’d during
their races. For detailed description of all rules and terms please refer to
your parent packet.
- You MUST touch the wall with two
hands during the turn and finish when swimming breaststroke and butterfly.
- You MUST touch the wall on your back
during backstroke both at the finish and turn.
- You MUST come off the wall on your
back when swimming backstroke.
- You MUST touch the wall at the end of
the pool at the completion of the race PRIOR to standing on the bottom of
the pool.
Sportsmanship reminder: We’d like all swimmers to get in the habit of remaining in the water until
ALL competitors have finished the race. This shows good sportsmanship and after
you get out telling an opposing team’s swimmer and even your own teammates that
they had a “Good Race” is a nice touch too.
Winter
Season Swim Banquet

must be returned no later than Wednesday, March 17. Don’t miss out on helping
us celebrate a great season!

Tuesday, April 20 – Thursday, April 22 at Westwood High School Pool. This

than 6:1 and no less than 4:1, and swimmers will be placed in groups based on
age and ability level. The number of coaches scheduled for this clinic will be
based on pre-registration numbers. Each clinic is 45 minutes in length and
there are two time slots/sessions available, 9:30 – 10:15 and 10:15 – 11:00.
This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to get some intensive stroke
work in a small group setting. Multiple family discounts do not apply to this
program. We will distribute sign-up forms in next week’s email. Do not delay in
registering, this program will likely fill-up quickly, especially since we will
