We have a busy weekend
between workout on Saturday and our final dual meet on Sunday in Cambridge
against Cambridge. Our focus last week in practice and for our final workout
Saturday is trying to get in as much drill, turn, and start work as we can for
the upcoming meets. As always, you will want to continue reading so you are
well informed of what is going on with our program and upcoming events.
CONGRATULATIONS
TO KIM (FARRAR) rANDALL
Please help us in sending good wishes to Kim Randall and her
husband as they welcome their baby boy Cyril into the world on Saturday,
February 27. Cyril was a healthy 8 pound little bundle of joy!
OUr final dual
meet is this weekend!
Our final DUAL MEET is SUNDAY, MARCH 7 against Cambridge from
9AM – 12:30PM in CAMBRIDGE. Please plan on being at the pool no later than 8:45AM
so we can be in the water warming up by 9AM or earlier. NOTE – DIFFERENT POOL
LOCATION: The pool location is Cambridge
War Memorial Pool, 1640 Cambridge Street, Cambridge, MA 02138.
Relays
Coach Kim highlights those in attendance at each meet during
warm-up. She also asks the swimmers if they are planning on being around for
relays if they are needed. Please send your swimmer down prepared during
warm-up to answer that question. We will have information on whether swimmers
will swim on relays or not, following the breaststroke event. Please help us
not have any last minute changes, and try to keep your swimmers around for
relays if they are needed.
EVENT ENTRIES -
LET’S TRY TO SWIM ALL EVENTS!
This is our final “official” dual meet and it is against a smaller
team so it is a perfect opportunity for all of our swimmers (Blue and up) to
swim all events. We do have some Little Ray swimmers who are ready to tackle
breaststroke and butterfly too. We will never know if they are legal or not if
they don’t try, so let’s give it a try for our final dual meet.
Index Cards
I have attached the pages from the parent packet that speaks
to the topic of index cards and how to prepare these PRIOR to coming to the meet. These cards are needed for
EACH event your child swims at the meet. Swimmers will bring the event card to
the bullpen area prior to their event and give it to the adult who is working
in that area. For those of you who are new, the Bullpen is a staging area where
we get the swimmers ready to go behind the blocks prior to their swim. Please DO
NOT give the cards to the coaches when you
arrive at the meet.
COMPETITION
Tips for our Swimmers – Yes these don’t change!
Below are a couple of very basic tips to remind your
swimmers prior to the meet. Coaches will give gentle reminders on deck prior to
their swims, but we want parents to be aware of these as well. These do not
cover all legalities related to the strokes, but are very basic things that ALL
swimmers are capable of doing and need to do so they do not get DQ’d during
their races. For detailed description of all rules and terms please refer to
your parent packet.
- You MUST touch the wall with two
hands during the turn and finish when swimming breaststroke and butterfly.
- You MUST touch the wall on your back
during backstroke both at the finish and turn.
- You MUST come off the wall on your
back when swimming backstroke.
- You MUST touch the wall at the end of
the pool at the completion of the race PRIOR to standing on the bottom of
the pool.
Sportsmanship reminder: We’d like all swimmers to get in the habit of remaining in the water until
ALL competitors have finished the race. This shows good sportsmanship and after
you get out telling an opposing team’s swimmer and even your own teammates that
they had a “Good Race” is a nice touch too.
CHAMPIONSHIP
MEET- Saturday, March 13
We have about 105 swimmers committed in the Championship
Meet on March 13! Attached is a complete list of swimmers who have signed up to
participate. If your swimmer’s name is not on this list and should be, please
let Coach Kim know ASAP, I am completing the registration process Saturday. If
you are participating in the meet, it is likely that you will be contacted by
Theresa Lake at some point to bring something and/or volunteer some time. We
have obligations to the league as a team to provide food for the snack bar, and
manpower to help make this meet run smoothly.
Winter
