WEEKLY SPLASH NOTES - FEBRUARY 17, 2010
We hope everyone is enjoying their Winter Vacation! It has been another busy week since the last Splash Notes. All four coaches are in the midst of winter clinics at the Westwood Pool; there are 35 swimmers participating in these clinics and they are going very well!

We are gearing up for our 1st ever in a long time, Blue and Gold Intersquad meet at Blue Hills during our practices on Saturday, February 20; you’ll find more information about this meet below.

Last but not least, we had a very successful Trivia Night last Saturday night! Thank you to all the families who supported the event in some way, shape, or form. We truly appreciate your support, because of it we were able to raise over $3,000 for scholarships, pool time, and other program operating expenses. In addition, our program will be making a donation to Matt Brown's Fund to support him in his recovery.
Kudos to Theresa Lake for all her hard work in orchestrating this event; and to Kristen Ober, and Mary Beth Cox for being Theresa’s right and left arm. Without them this event would not have been possible!

Blue and Gold Intersquad Meet
Attached are the team rosters for the Blue and Gold Intersquad Meet. If your swimmer’s name is not on the list and should be, or you assumed you could just show up, or you just plain forgot, please respond to this email and I will get them on a team. I’d rather work through those additions now than on deck Saturday if we can.

I have attached the event schedule and a reminder about index cards. This is an event where your swimmer will need an index card for each individual event they are swimming at the meet. For team name, place “Blue” or “Gold” depending on which team roster your child’s name appears on.

Please have your swimmers at the pool by 11:45A.M., we will get the pool set-up so we can get the kids in for warm-up right at 12:00. We will likely start the meet as close to 12:20 as we can.

We will have a little surprise for our heat winners in each event too! This is meant to be a fun event for the kids, giving them a chance to get up and race each other.

WORKOUTS DURING WINTER BREAK
Our workout schedule this weekend is during normal times. Remember that on Saturday, February 20, we will have our intersquad meet in place of workout from 11:45 – 2:00PM. Sunday, February 21 workouts are as they normally are scheduled.

CHAMPIONSHIP MEET entries due Sunday, February 28!

Our Championship Meet is Saturday, March 13. 10 and under swimmers will compete in the morning session and the 11 & older swimmers will swim in the afternoon. We will need volunteers at this meet, and we will be contacting everyone about this. In order to be competitive in this meet, we really need as many swimmers on our team to participate as possible, and we’d love for everyone to swim at least three if not all the events offered. Now, I am saying that knowing we have some of our athletes who are not legal in all strokes yet. If you know for certain that they are NOT legal in breaststroke or butterfly, do NOT enter those events, just stick to free and back; but, if you are questioning if they are legal or not in a particular stroke, please ask your child’s practice coach and they will advise you.

The registration form is attached and MUST be returned no later than February 28. Please keep in mind that when you commit, we are counting on you being there. Our club pays $15 per swimmer to participate in this event, and we do not want to pay entry fees for swimmers who are no shows.

Norwood Aquatics Club Summer Swim Team

The Norwood Aquatics Club is taking on the operation of the Town’s summer swim team. We are proud to announce that the existing winter team coaching staff has made a commitment to the program in the summer. This will provide much continuity in team objectives, and hopefully what your young swimmers take away from the program.

We will have a registration night (late April, early May) with swim suit sizing similar to the fall registration. If you are not able to make it that night, there will be online swim suit orders for a short period of time, in addition to mail-in registration. Stay tuned for more details to come!

Important dates to have on your calendar!
Sunday, February 28    Championship Meet Entries Are Due
Saturday, March 13    Championship Meet at Lincoln Quincy
Sunday, March 21    Winter Swim Team Banquet at the Elks (4 – 7PM)

As always, if anyone has questions, please feel free to respond to this email.

See you all Saturday!
